As winter grips Ukraine, the battle over energy infrastructure has emerged as one of the most consequential fronts of the war. Repeated strikes on power plants, substations and transmission lines have turned electricity, heat and water into strategic pressure points, directly affecting civilian endurance rather than military positions.
For Kyiv, operating with roughly half of its required electricity capacity, the impact is cumulative: power outages disrupt heating systems, disable water pumps, slow emergency services and paralyze economic activity.
