Bluey animated movie announced from Disney + and BBC

Puppy Bluey, the star of the Bafta-winning children’s television program, is coming to the big screen with his first feature film.

The film is expected to hit theaters in 2027 and is then scheduled to air on Disney+, ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia.

BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC, is collaborating with Disney on the project.

Bluey is a blue heeler who lives with his mother, father and little sister Bingo. He turns daily events in his life into adventures.

The voice actors of the series will also work in the movie.

Series creator Joe Brumm said: “I always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical film. I want it to be an experiential event that the whole family can enjoy together.”

The series was jointly commissioned by ABC and BBC Studios in 2017 and is produced by Australian production company Ludo (the blue heeler is an Australian dog breed).

It’s available in over 140 countries and is the most-watched series on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK. It is also this year’s most-watched series on Disney+ globally, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The series has also won numerous awards, including Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024 and this year’s Peabody Award.

The series was watched for more than 20 billion minutes on Disney+ in the USA in the last year and was among the 10 most watched programs in the country in terms of viewing time.

The film will feature voice actors from the series, such as Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who play Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler, and the music will be composed by composer Joff Bush.
